The EPA WaterSense and ENERGY STAR Programs have agreed to collaborate with ASME and ASTM to develop performance and efficiency criteria that will inform an EPA specification for Pre-Rinse Spray Valves (PRSVs).
The goal is to involve a broad set of interested stakeholders through a joint committee process to develop test procedures and specifications that deliver water and energy efficiency while ensuring product performance and quality. Upon completion of the committee's work, EPA will issue a draft specification for public comment that describes the joint program requirements for PRSVs to earn the WaterSense and ENERGY STAR labels.
Consistent with procedures in both programs, EPA will periodically update stakeholders on the progress of work carried out to develop the specification and seek input as needed. EPA expects this joint effort to result in a proposal and final specification that will meet the program principles of both the ENERGY STAR and WaterSense programs.
This effort will be launched on October 6 at a meeting preceding the WaterSmart Innovations Conference in Las Vegas, NV.
EPA encourages all interested ENERGY STAR and WaterSense stakeholders to participate in the ASME/ASTM committee process, which is open to all.

EPA has issued a Notice of Intent to develop a specification for high-efficiency pre-rinse spray valves. This NOI outlines EPA's approach to developing the draft specification, the efficiency and performance criteria EPA is working to define, and the technical issues that still need to be resolved related to these products.
